Sheriff Slater began his full-time law enforcement career in 1978 with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming. In 1980, he accepted employment with the Weber County Sheriff's Office and has been with the County since then. He has served in a variety of positions including, Patrol Deputy, K-9 Handler, Detective, Narcotics Agent, Training Officer, Internal Affairs Investigator. He has also held the supervisory positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. Sheriff Slater was first appointed by the Weber County Commission in March 1997 and was then elected to office in 1998 and is currently serving his second four-year term. Sheriff Slater attended Weber-area schools and is an alumni of Weber High School and Weber State University. He attended the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, the Utah Peace Officer Academy, the University of Utah Law Enforcement Executive Institute, the National Sheriff's Institute, and the FBI Command College.
