Stu Smith is currently the Chief of the Investigations Division with the Salt Lake County District Attorney s Office. He is a retired Major with the Utah Department of Public Safety where he served as the Director of the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Forensic Services Bureau, Criminal Identification Bureau, Medicaid Fraud Bureau, Deputy Director of the Division of Homeland Security.
Chief Smith started his public safety career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Salt Lake County Sheriffs Office more than 30 years ago. Chief Smith is the founding President of the Utah Narcotic Officers' Association (UNOA) and Past President of the Utah FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA).
Four Utah Governors have had Chief Smith develop programs and run special projects that included everything from Utah's background check program to the public safety planning and operations of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
